Rare javan langur monkey born at howletts wild animal park

a prone species of monkey has introduced a new member to its brood at a zoo.

an apricot-colored javan langur referred to as malang is settling into existence at howletts wild animal park close to canterbury after being born last month.

matt ford, head primate keeper, said: "malang is doing very well and it is amazing to peer her out and approximately with the circle of relatives organization."

javan langurs have exclusive color bureaucracy inside their agencies, and the primates may also have a coat this is both black or an orange/brown coloration, a zoo spokeswoman stated.

she stated: "at delivery all toddlers may have a vivid apricot-colored coat which will step by step darken to at least one or the opposite coloration shape at round three to five months old."


javan langurs are an endangered species and face the same threats as other primates in asia, such as loss of habitat and searching, the spokeswoman stated.

the brightly coloured primates aren't regularly seen in wild animal parks but howletts and port lympne, close to ashford, kent, are together home to greater than 50.

animal director neil spooner said: "we've considered one of the most important collections of javan langurs outside indonesia and have had over one hundred births because the early Nineteen Eighties.

"our javan primate undertaking just out of doors malang, indonesia, launched on the end of closing year. the conservation venture is rescuing primates from the illegal pet change and rehabilitating them, in order that they can be reintroduced to regions of the wild that we shield.

"malang is a completely fitting call for our present day langur beginning."
